There are three types of procedures used to validate performance to satisfy regulatory requirements: IQ, OQ, and PQ. IQ, meaning "Instrument Qualification" refers to the pre-installation detail that the products and services are subjected to. The IQ also qualifies that the equipment was installed correctly. OQ refers to Operations Qualification and is carried out by the manufacturer or supplier at installation or service interval to verify the performance criteria presented by the manufacturer, to confirm the instrument satisfies its agreed metrics, and to determine the validity of the working environment by verification against traceable references. PQ, which refers to the test or validation protocol carried out by the user, offers documentary evidence that the instrument is maintaining the agreed values.
